#FlexxCop

 #FlexxCop signing off

A fun-loving rich chaebol gets entangled in an incident and ends up joining a violent crime investigation team.

As an #AhnBoHyun fan, this by far IMHO is the best I’ve seen of him #ItaewonClass #MyName #SeeYouInMy19thLife

Flex x Cop is what I call Bo Hyun’s revenge drama. After his brief romantic relationship with a popular idol, he comes up with a drama at his finest – and handsomest. He seemed to be enjoying every moment, every episode, showing chemistry with the cast. It’s either because Jin Isoo’s personality may be close to the real ABH, or because these roles suit him to a T. Or perhaps both. While he was like a lost, sullenly serious soul in #SeeYouInMy19thLife, here he is also rich but more in control, bold and fearless but not cocky, funny, a bit naughty and childish but loveable and not malicious. He may have a dark, quiet side which he hides, owing to his childhood trauma, losing his mother at an early age and couldn’t remember what happened, but he is often playful, using company resources and his chaebol ways to solve crimes. As a mystery-detective-crime series fan, I enjoyed consuming the murder cases and how they were able to catch the culprits.

I also think the drama wanted to show him off – not just his looks (his right is, for me, his most flattering side), height and built, but his acting and popularity. That hey, this is ABH we are talking about, he is not a so-so actor, excuse me. I also noticed that the cameo of Jang Gyu-ri as Tae Cho-hee seemed to be intentional, as she is said to be the lookalike of the idol that he once dated. It just so happened that said actress is friends with another cast member Kim Shin-bi, being co-stars in Cheer Up (2022). I liked that the writers did not insist on a love angle between the leads (Park Ji-hyun as Lee Gang-hyun), or it would have been trying too hard. The series didn’t need it, maybe in Season 2, it might work? The one between detective Park Jun-young (Kang Sang-jun) and forensic doctor Yoon Ji-won (Jeong Ga-hee) is enough to fill in the kilig factor, I guess. Plus points for loyal and dedicated staff like Mr. Choi who never neglected Isoo. He was rewarded generously in the end.

I don’t really know what happens in chaebol families – the power struggle, the fight to get to the top, favoritism, skeletons in the closet, deceit, and betrayal. And just like in #RebornRich, #TheImpossibleHeir, you can’t seem to decide if they are family or…enemies. Who needs enemies with family members like them, out to get your head at any given opportunity. In this luxurious life, your money is king, you can buy (and achieve) anything as long as you have the won. Sometimes you can get away with murder, but as it should be, crime does not pay, and when you break the law, sooner or later it will catch up on you, and you must suffer the consequences. Which is what every k-drama series unfailingly teaches the viewers. In all fairness.

Flex x Cop is available to stream at Disney+. See you all in Season 2! #BuhayKPam

#DoctorSlump

#DoctorSlump signing off

Once rivals in school, two doctors reunite by chance, during the lowest moment of their lives, and unexpectedly find solace in each other.

Definitely one of the best I’ve seen:

• CAST– the chemistry between the leads #ParkHyungSIk #ParkShinHye, the family, the second leads; love this ensemble

• PACING– they don’t stretch or prolong the conflicts

• STORYTELLING – the way the stories are told, from different points of view, the way the thoughts of the characters are shown

• CHARACTERS – the buildup, development, and the maturity

• LESSONS AND TAKEAWAYS - mental health awareness, healing, new beginnings, pursuing dreams, having a support system

We all experience a slump once in our lives, maybe even twice or more, sometimes one at a time, worse, all at the same time. And oftentimes, we question God, why our lives get disrupted by these brutal realities and suffering, our peace and security shaken and our faith disoriented. We may not know or realize the answers right away. But when we do see the purpose of such miracles and humbling moments, we grow, we become better persons - and all these make it all worthwhile.

What does better mean? Does that mean they’ll become happy?

No, they’ll accept their misfortunes. “I can become miserable again. But that’s ok. Should misfortunes come, I have the strength to endure them.”

Everyone in the drama has his or her closure. Days may not be always shiny or bright. You could be happy today, and suddenly sad tomorrow, and regardless if our slumps are deep or shallow, what counts is learning our lessons, remaining strong to endure future sadness and misfortunes, and having the courage to rise above all these…

Bonus: cameo from Lee Sung Kyung, a patient from the Philippines, and a song from PHS ‘Lean on Me’ in the OST.
